What Can a Chiropractor Do for Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia (also commonly referred to as fibro) is a condition that affects the musculoskeletal system and is extremely common among adults. Specifically, fibro as a condition is made up of a set of specific symptoms.
Unfortunately, those living with fibro are often misdiagnosed or even dismissed by their doctors, which can make living with the condition even more of a battle. Here at Kilian Chiropractic, we understand the pain that comes along with living with fibromyalgia and offer specific treatment options to help provide relief.
Symptoms of Fibromyalgia
So, what are the common signs of fibromyalgia?
Typically, the main symptoms include anxiety and/or depression, fatigue and overall loss of energy and pain that spreads inexplicably throughout the body. In many cases, patients may also report that they experience a lower threshold for pain and have tender areas throughout the body.
Statistically, women are significantly more likely to develop fibro than men.
If you feel like you've been aching all over and have had difficulty concentrating as a result, you may want to see a doctor to see if you can get an official diagnosis. Furthermore, if you've been experiencing the above symptoms in conjunction with muscle stiffness, dryness of the mouth and chronic headaches, it's likely that fibro could be the cause.
Unfortunately, as of right there, there is no cure for fibromyalgia and there are no treatment options that will relieve all of the symptoms of the condition. However, there are different treatment options that may be used, ranging from medications and exercises.
There is also the option of seeking chiropractic treatment for fibro. Many patients have found that having regular chiropractic sessions that involve spinal adjustments and massages can help to relieve many of the symptoms of fibro, including pain, soreness and muscle stiffness.
Chiropractic Care for Fibromyalgia
Chiropractic care for fibromyalgia is a holistic solution designed to relieve the symptoms. Since there is no cure for fibromyalgia as of today, Dr. Kilian focuses on improving the overall health and well-being of the patient in order to provide relief. This can include dealing with toxins, trauma and stress, as well as using gentle adjustments to remove subluxations that could cause some of the symptoms (such as pain and muscle stiffness).
Additionally, many patients that suffer from fibromyalgia may also be affected by upper cervical spinal stenosis. This is a condition that causes the compression of the meninges, resulting in pain across the entire body of the patient. Dr. Kilian is familiar with upper cervical spinal stenosis and can help patients relieve some of the pain by making adjustments to the neck and head, correcting the spine and preventing it from becoming compressed. This will alleviate some of the chronic pain that is typically associated with fibromyalgia.
At Kilian Chiropractic, chiropractic care for fibromyalgia can provide you with a gentle solution to help cope with the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Patients have reported an improved quality of life as a result of high-quality sleep at night, decreased fatigue and less pain in their body.
